There are no free camps at Byron itself, but there are free highway camps at Sleepy Hollow on the highway to the north, Yelgun, near Mullumbimby, Burringbar and Stotts Island, which is north of Murwillumbah and south of Chinderah on the old highway.

Burringbar Rest Area between Mooball and Murwillumbah ... Free rest area has clean toilets, water, tables, shelter, free bbq, and regional shopping centre across the road
