Fast-Growing Social Local Search Site Hits Half-Million Users; New App Builds on Web and Android Success
Tel Aviv, Israel, August 13, 2014 - Social local search service WhoDoYou today released its iOS app, a handy and reliable mobile guide to the most trusted local businesses. WhoDoYou differs from services like Angie's List and Yelp by collecting real conversations on leading social networks and converting them into honest, authentic referrals. Available for free download at the iTunes App Store, it builds on the success of WhoDoYou's website and Android app, which have already logged over 500,000 users.
WhoDoYou captures chatter from public Facebook conversations that have already happened (e.g. "Does anyone know a good pediatrician in Chicago?") and converts them into structured, searchable recommendations for local businesses. The app uses advanced machine learning and natural language processing to retrieve the most relevant content, and allows users to search by category and location. Furthermore, by allowing each referral to be traced back to its original source, WhoDoYou makes it extremely difficult for businesses to 'game the system' with falsified reviews.
"Because it is collected from genuine conversations between friends, the quality of the information found on WhoDoYou surpasses that of other leading review services, which are rife with bias and manipulation," said Yoav Schwartz, founder and CEO. "WhoDoYou will appeal to millions of iOS users because it was created for regular people with busy lives who rely on friends to help them find trusted local businesses."
WhoDoYou users who log in with their Facebook accounts can access even more personalized results, pulled from private conversations between their own Facebook friends and groups. Not available through public searches, these referrals are captured and securely displayed only in each user’s private Vault.
