Hey all. Does anyone have a good recommendation on a meat source (including fish) or butcher shop? My wife and I are tired of the less than stellar grocery store...

At sunprairebeef.com you can order different boxes with different weights, or even customize your own 25# box with the cuts you want. It comes frozen, vacuum sealed, great quality.

I've heard Western Daughters in the Highlands is great, but I haven't been. Online, uswellnessmeats.com is great and then there's a local company that delivers products from local farmers - I can't for the life of me think of the name right now, but I'll find out and report back!

None of us have tried Teton Waters Ranch meat and thus do not want to endorse it by selling it outside Verve, etc. We love you all
Backyard fruit exchange? By any chance, does anyone know if there are resources for people who'd like to buy fruit directly from those who grow it in their backyard...
Peppa_D replied:
If I see a nice tree, I knock on the door and ask if I could have some fruit. I usually offer $5, but no one has ever taken it. I also bring lemons from my yard to offer as an exchange if I have any. I have little clippers and a little stool in my car this time of year so I can reach tree branches overhanging in alleys.

This is a great idea. There's no possible way I could eat the 100 lbs of persimmon or peaches that fruit every summer. I feel guilty composting it all, fruit doesn't get better than that.

Check out the Nextdoor app. I've seen lots of fruit exchanges on there.

Join your local time bank. This is a common exchange

I feel like this would work out well as a Facebook group or meetup group. But... farmers markets are also a thing.

What would you do if you found a dead rodent inside your organic produce from your favorite grocery store?

How to Clean Fruits & Vegetables With Vinegar Photo Credit Grayson Dere Photography/Demand Media The University of Minnesota Extension recommends washing fresh produce under clean, running water prior to consuming, but adding vinegar to the mix may hel p kill even more bacteria. A study published in 2003 in the “Journal of Food Protection” found that washing apples with a vinegar and water solution reduced salmonella on the outer skin significantly more than washing with water alone. Jack Bishop, editor of “Cook's Illustrated,” performed a similar experiment, and found that vinegar killed approximately 98 percent of bacteria on the surface of fresh fruits and vegetables.
