Ted, Dan is spot on. You're going to pay fees regardless of where you go for generally the same advice at lower dollar amounts. I had Morgan Stanley managing my funds until 1.5 years ago when the firm told me I'd have to pay several hundred dollars per year in managment fees because my accounts had (get this) less than $1 million in value. Those fees were on top of the fees charged by the mutual funds Morgan Stanley recommended for my investments. I'm still taken aback by the tone of their letter. They didn't even call to convey the news. They essentially said, if you have a million come to us, if not don't bother and get out. Find an entity that will charge the lowest fees with the greatest potential bang for the buck.
