Can anyone recommend a decent vet with reasonable prices? If not in the city, then preferably north of it - like Kenmore/Amherst/Tonawanda area.

When I lived in Buffalo, I always took my dogs to Brighton-Eggert Animal Clinic in Tonawanda. The name is the location. Inexpensive veterinarians in Buffalo are rare. Most vets in the Buffalo area have DVM degrees from Cornell, and on top of all the other overhead many have hefty student loans to pay off.

I go to the Ellicott Small Animal Hospital (http://www.ellicottvets.com/site/view/144264_Home.pml) They aren't cheap . . . but they're not awful either. Also, they'll tell you the charges before you make an appointment if you ask. They've been my family's vet since the 70's and we've seen a lot of staff come and go, but it's always been really high-quality.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. It's for a dog, and I'm just looking for a place for regular check-ups and shots, not for any specific health problems.
PearsonFlyer replied:
Dog, cat, or other? For cats, I would only recommend Summer Street. It's certainly not cheap, but you won't find better care anywhere. City Creatures is also pretty good, and less expensive.

I live in Amherst, but I take my animals to Seneca Animal Hospital (out in Elma, very near Sahlen's Sports Complex). It's a bit of a drive, but they are great with our dogs. To keep the costs down, you see the vet one visit and a tech the other. Also our Golden had really bad pneumonia once, and was in their care for a week straight and we feared the bill would be crazy. It ended up costing around $700 which we felt was pretty reasonable.

I take my black lab to Donner Creek in Lockport. They are reasonable, I'd say, and the care is great.

Ours is in North Buffalo-- but that's kinda Kenmorey, so I thought I'd throw it out there. I freaking LOVE them. http://citycreaturesbuffalo.com/
Green Acres, they are also a 24 hour emergency hospital, so if your pet has to stay, there is always someone there.

Pine woods all the way. Not only are they on the cheaper side, but they will work with you with payments if need be. Dr Mike Dilaberto there is absolutely amazing.

Northtown Animal Hospital has fantastic staff & vets. Not cheap, but always friendly and great care. We went there after trying McBride - didn't like the open layout, and found the staff to be rude.

Regular vets offices are going to be closed now, you'll have to go to the emergency clinic. Please don't wait until Monday to get this taken care of . I've seen that happen to many times and unfortunately, it makes the injury worse. Good luck with the kitty !
Friendsofanimals.org sells certificates for discounted spay/neuter and pine woods animal hospital in nt accepts them. You just have to make an appt w/ that vet first and then you order the cert. once it arrives, via postal service 7/10 days, you can make the appt to have them fixed
ISO a veterinarian for a new kitten in Kenmore -Tonawanda area. Any recommendations?

Brighton Eggert Animal Clinic. My cousin used to own (retired now) it and we take our cats there. They are very good and it has the cutest waiting room I ever saw. Full of cat sculptures and pictures. My cousin's wife decorated it herself.

We used to go to Brighton/Eggert, but started traveling the distance to Corfu Animal Clinic in Corfu. They are well worth the distance, reasonable, you are not treated as a number -- and no offense Carol, but since Dr. Weber died, the B/E practice has changed and is not as family friendly as Dr. Robinson's Corfu Animal Clinic.
Laurie O. replied:
Carol Barker, who was your cousin? As I mentioned, I was friends with Julie Weber and I really liked Dr. Weber and his partner at the time Dr. F (can't remember his last name) was awesome too.

If it's just immunizations, they can be purchased at Tractor Supply (under $10) given (injection), I'm more than happy to show you how (fostered for years). Rabies can be done at a clinic (can not administer yourself).

Just purchased an 11 week old puppy. Have been thinking of taking him to McBrides. Is there a different vet anyone suggests? How is Killewald ?
Susan C. replied:
Companion care is the best. I've been to them and pinewoods and mcbrides, and while I stay with pinewoods only because of the multiple pet discount, they have missed several very serious health problems with my animals that I had to insist they check into further for answers and thank God I did. Knowing my pets, it saved their lives. If it were left to the drs verdict, I certainly would be one pet down.. scary and sad, but at least now I know and I am very diligent when there with questions, treatments, and concerns, etc.

Dr. Friburger opened up where Brighton Eggert animal clinic was. He was the original owner before he sold it to a California firm and their prices went sky high. It's now called Ken-ton animal clinic
