Looking for the right bakery I know there are a lot of great bakeries in PDX, but I've called around and they all use either whipped cream or Swiss/Italian meringue buttercream. Call me picky, but I don't like whipped frosting. I'm not from this coast, where I'm from the bakeries almost always use American Buttercream (that stiff, toothy, super sweet white bakery icing that crusts nicely). I'd like to buy from a small local bakery, anyone know any bakeries here that use it? Especially one where I don't have to special order in advance. I'd love to find a place with cake that tastes like the good stuff back home (and if you know where to find fried belly clams, that'd be amazing, but I'm probably asking for a miracle!
