  Recommendations for agencies assisting US citizens with Russian tourist visa Hello! My friend and I are planning a trip to Russia this summer during the time of the world cup. We've gotten the invitation letters from our hotels, our passports are up to date, we know which days we are traveling into, out of and around the country so at this point we feel we're ready to begin the process to acquire our tourist visa. Others have suggested using an agency rather than DIY to help expedite this process and also make sure we have all the correct documentation we need. I've read good and bad stories about a few agencies (russia-travel.com, waytorussia.net) can anyone who has been through this process before recommend an agency? Thanks in advance

  Well... there are issues with just walking into a consulate in the US. First, two of them have closed in the last year, so the number of locations have decreased. Second- you have to go to your consulate assigned to your geographic region ... can’t pop into New York consulate while you’re there on a work trip if you live in Seattle. The official service the Russians are using to process mail applications is the ILS. HTTP://ils-USA.com

  Dear expats, dear all, An American friend of mine is planning to visit me in Moscow soon. For a tourist visa, a hotel voucher is needed. However, the plan is for her to stay in private accommodation. Those of you who invited foreign friends to stay over -- how did you deal with the requirement for a hotel voucher? Are there any that are willing to provide one, for a nominal fee? Or is there another way to deal with that requirement? Thanks in advance for your insights!
