I rushed my 5 year old dog Kady here on Saturday. My vet sent me here because my dog was in respiratory distress. She had never been sick, this came on without any signs or warning. I rushed her to this hospital only to be greeted by the most uncompassionate people I have ever dealt with. They took my girl away without a word. 20 minutes later they put me in a room for another 10 minutes. The vet finally came to speak with us and her first words were....Your dog is critical and this is going to cost a lot of money. We need to discuss this. I hear you couldn't even pay $500.00 to have her transported here so your brought her yourself.
First off the transport was not available for another 2 hours to transport so I rushed her down there because my vet and I agreed this was best.
The vet then said she could write up an estimate for me but I was looking at a cost of 4-6 thousand dollars. At this point they still have no idea what is wrong or why this has happened. . They haven't even examined her. As per the vet, they only put her on oxygen, until we discuss payment.
Kady had been struggling to breath now for 3 hours and her eyes are rolled in the back of her head. I make the heart breaking decision to put her to rest.
This vet bring in 2 needles and explains one is a sedative so she doesn't feel anything and the other is the euthanasia meds. She injects them and Kady is still struggling to breath. The vet says ...."oh, the catheter must not be in the vein, I shot the meds under her skin. She will still get the meds but it will slowly be dissolved into her blood stream unless you want me to take her in back and put in a new catheter". I told her she was crazy and of course I wanted a new catheter, I was not going to watch her die a slow painful death.
Once Kady was gone, the vet tech starts to bring her out to us and we head towards the car. The snotty receptionist stops the tech who takes Kady into the back and proceeds to tell us we have to pay our bill. I told her I would call on Monday and take care of it, that I had left the house in a hurry and didn't have anything on me. She said she would have to call the owner first.
We waited another 35 minutes for them to acknowledge us and say that the owner would call us Monday. My father was with me and he used his Care Credit to pay the bill. They then release Kady's body to us.
Not only was this a heartbreaking tragedy, this horrible kill clinic made the whole situation worse and did nothing for my girl...all because I did not have the money to pay them. They are not in business for the animals. They allowed her to continue to suffer without even checking to see what was wrong.
I urge everyone that reads this to please look for other accredited animal hospital to take your furry loved one to. Unless you are rich, they will proudly watch your animal die.
I sit hear still not knowing what the hell happened and why my dog is no longer here.
I don't know if this is the right place for this. If not, I will gladly remove, but Does anyone know of a vet with emergency hours on Sunday or that comes to your house? And will they take a payment arrangement?
