  we use sew in and iron on from www.charmwoven.com We've got one that's a good 5-6 years old ironed into the fleece liner of a coat that gets washed frequently, and it's still there, and still readable. Sharpie also makes a laundry marker - I saw that the other day at Staples. Not sure how long they last in the wash.
