Hi everyone. Long story short, I found out this week that my beloved Drys has a 10cm tumor on his spleen. I'm completely torn on what to do. He just turned 13, but has seemed perfectly healthy up until recently, when he didn't want to eat as much and wasn't as eager for his walks. It's complicated, but I'm considering surgery. I don't know what the right thing to do is, but if I do surgery, it's advised to get it done asap. I have a quote at Access in Culver City for $5-8k surgery, which is far, far beyond my means. But even they admit they are overpriced and that there are many vets who can remove a spleen, which is a fairly routine surgery - and who would charge much less. I don't want $ to even be a factor in the decision - Drys is family! He deserves the best, even if it puts me in debt for a very long time.... but I also know there is great quality care out there that doesn't have to be at Access where everything is at a premium.
So my question is - does anyone in the LA area have a great vet that is able to perform major surgery? (at a vet hospital, as he would need overnight care - which is why my regular vet can't do this) Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
