So, if there is a lesson learned from yesterday's chaos it was the reminder that, in many homes, there are families in crisis, folks that perhaps were splitting up (don't know that family's specific situation) for any of a number of reasons, and it's not amicable. Maybe it's a case of domestic terror or bullying. Maybe there is substance abuse, financial distress, or issues of mental health. Maybe, it's plain old fashioned crime. We are all guilty of being concerned about the impact of the cops and choppers on us and that looky loo factor.
But we are neighbors, this is a community, and sometimes the best thing we can do for one another is to make resources known where folks who may need it but may be too ashamed or embarrassed or think they cannot afford it can get help. You know, those places one could call or email before it gets so bad that 911 has to be called. There is a risk in reaching out to those in distress. Sometimes we do not want to get pulled in, sometimes we get upset when someone else doesn't do what we think they should do when we want them to do it, and there are still others who believe "it's none of my damned business."
But someone who might need those resources or know someone who does may be reading and so, for that reason, could we just post the names (and/or other contact info) for places to which folks could turn in time of near crisis and what that agency could provide? Please offer them in the contacts below. My passion is philanthropy, and I will throw some into the mix, but I'd like to see what else is out there. Thanks.
