So, if there is a lesson learned from yesterday's chaos it was the reminder that, in many homes, there are families in crisis, folks that perhaps were splitting up...

The Foothill Unity Center in Monrovia provides services to countless in need. They can use volunteers and, by the way, as the holidays approach, I'm sure they can use some extra help in their pantry. http://foothillunitycenter.org/

For those who are finding themselves without a roof over their head, Union Station Foundation in Pasadena may be an avenue. The caveat is you MUST go to them; they do not come get you. I reviewed a grant request from them a few years ago, and they have several types of assistance. http://foothillunitycenter.org/
Gayle M. replied:
I don't think it's nonprofit, but we do have a local in-town tie to this. For those who are struggling with addiction issues, you may wish to contact this entity. They have a Facebook presence, and I know their intake person is incredible. https://www.facebook.com/RecoveryNowTV

Women facing issues of domestic violence may find assistance from WINGS in West Covina (we also reviewed a grant from them a few years back). http://www.ywcasgv.org/wings.html

The United Way does some remarkable work in the area. Please, no comments about Aramony. His trangressions were in 1992, and he's long dead. Actually, United Way is the sponsor of HomeWalk on 11/15, the march to end homelessness (Kobe is always a participant at the event). You may find other resources by contacting them. Their fees are often sliding scale. Yes, donations to them have an overhead expense. What business does not? http://www.unitedwayla.org/
Gayle M. replied:
If someone has other issues for which they need assistance, ask. I have screened a number of NPOs in recent years as the head of an employee-based nonprofit for a major corporation. I may be able to get you insights. I do know that Second Baptist Church is a great resource for our Seniors. http://www.secondbaptistmonrovia.org/

Don't discount the good deeds done by the Volunteer Center. They do good work and can always use some support from the good people of our town. http://vcsgv.org/

I promised a few links which will follow. First, there is a homeless consortium convening soon that may provide resources https://www.facebook.com/pages/San-Gabriel-Valley-Consortium-on-Homelessness/145476562216028
Does anyone in Monrovia know of a pool where Military members can rehab for free after an injury?
Gayle M. replied:
Steve, FYI, individual membership is about $45 or so, and family is in the $70 range. I believe it is a great resource and have memberships for myself and two of the grands. Pam, thank you, as always. Steve, thanks for stepping up, and Deanna, please keep us posted. Also let me know if you need any other Vet related resources.
Deanna R. replied:
Steve Bray, Thank you so much for the offer. Between the ladies and you... Well, my eyes teared up. I am so blessed to have such thoughtful people in my town. I'm hoping to not need a sponsor for my rehab. Brian at Foothill Gym has already been amazing about providing a membership for all military (when I'm well enough for a gym environment). I'm just so incredibly blessed by each of you. Thank you for the kindness and support. Being a veteran can sometimes feel very isolating, especially in my line of work. Gayle Montgomery, I would LOVE to hear any other vet related information! (For myself and to disseminate to others) Maybe we can PM about it. I'll be sure to keep you and Pamela updated when I reach Jonathan.
Gayle M. replied:
Also, Deanna, for other people you might know, New Directions for Veterans is doing a great job at getting homeless Vets off the street. There is a large volume of young Vets who are having trouble adjusting due to PTSD and other psych trauma so that there has been a large volume of homelessness among young men, and a spike in homeless females. There is, of course, the commitment to get folks off the street this year. There are veterans' courts for those vets who commit crimes (sometimes as the result of trying to commit suicide by cop), and these courts are set up to mitigate the consequences taking the disability of the Vet into consideration. There are folks I can call on for these and other answers and put your or someone in touch just let me know.

Hi Deanna Robinson... The Santa Anita YMCA offers free use to currently deployed military. Call Jonathan Rodriguez at (626)359-9244 and tell him Pam Fitzpatrick referred you. He can also tell you about any assistance available.
I made a HUGE pot of turkey noodle soup, does anyone know of a soup kitchen or shelter where I could donate it?

So many people seem to want your soup! Maybe you should put it in dressed up mason jars and sell it. Then you can make more or donate the proceeds to your charity. You might want to try our local http://foothillunitycenter.org/ it's right here in Monrovia on Chestnut
