Orthodontist for braces After some jaw pain over the weekend and a subsequent dentist visit, I've been made aware that my teeth are shifting, and I am in need of braces. Currently, I am on Denti-Cal which does not cover or pay for any parts of getting braces.
I'm a student, so while I might be able to get some dental insurance for braces, I would prefer not to if it ends up costing more than paying it myself as I have healthy teeth (no cavities, etc).
So, my questions are:
1) For anyone who has had to go through this before, is it cheaper to get dental insurance and go through them for braces or pay it yourself?
2) Does anyone have any good (and cheap) orthodontist recommendations? I've heard the prices for braces range from orthodontist to orthodontist. Currently, my dentist referred me to Lakewood Orthodontics.
Any and all advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Dr Chang is awesome. Good insurance paid about $1000 of the $3500 process for invisalign in a child. You get a discount for paying up front, but they also have payment plans. Check into the dental plans first to make sure there isnt a waiting period before you can use it for orthodontics. If you need braces now, insurance might not be an option. https://www.changorthodontics.com/
Anyone in the Long Beach area know an orthodontist we can rely on for the kids. I'm looking for flexible scheduling after school, available Mon-Fri. Plus emergencies. Thanks!
