About us
Mission Overview:
Friends of Pickens County Guardian ad Litem Program is a 501c3 volunteer organization whose mission it is to provide holistic support to abused and neglected children and court appointed volunteers for the Pickens County Guardian ad Litem program, encompassing volunteer-centric events and community awareness.
Annual and On Going Activities:
- Annual Spring Fling for Pickens County children receiving services from Pickens County GAL & DSS
- Annual Back-to-School Heart & Sole Shopping at Belk’s & Rack Room Shoes – over 200 children in 2015
- Annual Appreciation/Service Dinner of Pickens County Volunteer Guardian ad Litem
- Clothes Closet at the Pickens County Department of Social Services Office – maintains and stocks Clothes Closet with new
clothes for children entering foster care.
- Provide financial support for fund requests such as (however not limited to) medical expenses not covered by DSS/Medicaid, eyeglass replacement, extra clothing needs (not met by C-Closet or quarterly DSS), summer camp for children, self-esteem items for children (new bedding, YMCA/gyms, music lessons, suitcases, teddy bears, games, event tickets like Lion King, etc.)
- Provide financial assistance to the Pickens County Guardian ad Litem Program – i.e. advertisement expense for GAL volunteer training classes, mileage reimbursement requests from GAL volunteers, support to Pickens County GAL office for petty cash needs (such as office supplies, training supplies, refreshments for GAL Christmas Party).
- Fundraising activities includes, however not limited to - Annual Clusters for Kids Oyster Roast
