  Looking for a doctor in the Raleigh/Wake Forest area that will look for the root cause of hypothyroidism/Hashimotos disease. Not looking to just throw prescriptions at it, I'm already taking Armour Thyroid, but still experiencing symptoms. Looking for supplements and nutritional guidance, homeopathic, etc. I've found a place called Carolinas Thyroid Institute in Gastonia, but wanted to see if there's anything like this around here?   I go to a wonderful functional medical doctor in Raleigh whom I've been seeing for over 7 years and my husband has been seeing for 4 or 5. I don't have HBP, but my husband does. He was able to cut back on meds, but not go off completely. It really depends on the cause of the HBP. For him, there is a genetic factor as well as some mineral deficiencies and inflammation. This particular doctor digs deep to find out the causes and works to help you as naturally as possible, but will prescribe meds if necessary.   Well Jennafer, Jared saw UNC endocrinologists for years. They don't really do much other than a bloodtest, say yes or no you are hyper/hypo and dispense a prescription--and the levels that they accept aren't exactly optimal. He struggled with sleeplessness and fatigue for years--they did nothing to figure out why or how to help him even with my questions. However,I on the other hand saw Dr. Goode from the beginning (6 years now)-she actually diagnosed my hashimotos thyroiditis and prescribed two thyroid meds-synthroid and a natural compounded one--plus changed my diet added supplements and I was able to stop the damage to my thyroid. My thyroid antibodies went from 153 to 50....typical endocrinologists don't even test for antibodies because they don't feel you can do anything to change them. So, I feel her approach has helped me a lot more than Jared's doctors. He is finally old enough to see Dr Goode and she has already helped him to feel much better and sleep better in a couple months by changing him to a different medicine-one with T3 and T4--something I suggested to the endocrinologist and they didn't see the need.
