  Okay folks, I'm looking for suggestions on homeowners insurance. I currently work with CT Lowndes and have a policy through Capitol Preferred. When we purchased last February, this was our best option based on both coverage and cost for a home in this location and of this age (1940s). Yet since we placed the policy, there was an increase due to some sort of policy change that wasn't apparent at the time we placed it and now upon receiving our renewal, it has increased again! I think it's time for some due diligence and quoting around to see if I can get the same/similar coverage for less money. Any suggestions are appreciated!

  Ellen McCarthy I own Crescent Insurance Agency as Georgia Crawford Nettles said. Among the carriers I represent are both Capitol Preferred and Occidental. There are a lot of different factors that go into which carrier is best for individual houses, and I can help explain these to you and anyone else. Two factors that contribute here are proximity to the water and the year of updates to a house's roof, wiring, plumbing, and HVAC. Capitol Preferred actually would not write a new policy for anywhere in Wagener Terrace because they have new guidelines making houses within 2 miles of water ineligible, and they use the Ravenel Bridge as that point for us.
