  this is the story of Mike from his sister in law Kelli Dowd McCarth: 7 hours ago Kelli Dowd McCarthy Vicki - Mike was diagnosed the beginning of June with stage 3 of stage 4 lung cancer that had spread to his kidney. Since then he has gone to Mexico for alternative medicine to give that a try which was unsuccessful. Beginning of August his family moved into Waterloo to live with his dad so he could get the treatment that he needed. Laura started at Blessed Sacrament school. The cancer has spread everywhere. He has had surgery to put a rod in his leg and also to replace his T1 vertabrae that had a tumor in it. He has been in the hospital now for over a week and half. Cancer is now in both kidneys and is on dialysis. He was put in intensive care and ventalataor last Thursday. Didn't think he would make it through the weekend but they were able to take him off the vent on Sunday evening. He is talking, alert and understanding everything that is happening. They just put in a permanent "bath" for the dialysis yesterday. Long story short - not a good ending will come from this but not sure the "time" factor as of yet. HE is a fighter and giving it everything that he has got. Thanks for asking - I am sure he and his family would love to get cards. Kelli
