About us
Jen Knarr is a graduate of The Paul Mitchell School, Cincinnati. She enrolled at the school as a self taught stylist of 20 years, inspired by the refusal of the hairdressers in her small hometown to give her an outside of the box haircut. As she became more comfortable cutting her own hair she branched out and discovered that there was a demand for a stylist that was willing to be creative.
SCOTT's career began in 1997. After graduating from The International Academy of Hair Design, he spent a few years working in 2 larger salons in Kenwood. Those years gave Scott the opportunity to learn every aspect of cutting and coloring hair in a "commercial" setting. A strong desire to branch out and create a place where people could get the best, most consistent and personalized service without the pomp and attitude of most big salons led him to open Northside Chop Shop in 2004. In 2006 Cincinnati magazine recognized this different approach to the salon experience and awarded Northside Chop Shop "Best of the City".
Jen and Scott teamed up in 2011 and began working toward their combined vision of a new Northside Chop Shop.
Charles Howard started splitting wigs in the fall of 1996. His resume has taken him from Taylor Jameson Salon '95-'96, Strands (Mainstrausse, Cov.) '96-'00, Leah Cohen '00-'01, Salon Urbanity '01-'04 & Ritual Salon '04-'06 when he left the Cincinnati area and headed west the beginning of 2006. Charles lived in San Diego briefly and then spent 6+ years in Portland, Or. He returned to our beautiful Queen City in March of 2013, and started at the Northside Chop Shop that November.
In the years since, our team of 3 has earned it's share of "best of awards" and notoriety. We pride ourselves on our purposely non typical approach to our industry. If you'd like a quiet place to read or have an interesting conversation while getting your hair done, then you've found your place.
