Nexy Hostel (http://www.nexyhostels.com/) is a really nice new hostel right next to the lake. I stayed there twice, and it has good facilities, and a great vibe. Also check out Hanoi Backpackers - The Original. Less modern, but is clean, fun and has a good vibe too.
