Ants! Any solutions? Central North Carolina, 24K in-ground salt pool. On a natural/wooded lot pool deck runs up to the tree line.
This season we have had an infestation of ants on the pool deck and in the water as well. They are biting ants and my 3y/o doesn't want to get in the pool because of the ants/getting bit. I did not know ants could swim! I have been treating the surrounding ground with lawn/garden type insect treatments and that seems to help some, but the expansion joints in the concrete deck seem to have a constant march of ants after a few days.
Does anyone have any suggestions on treatment options? I am hesitant to treat the concrete deck with an insecticide as it may contaminate the water as the deck expansion joints are their common path to the pool and joints drain back to the pool. Is there any pool safe treatments?

Get serious with the pest control and get some Bifen IT from [domyown.com](https://domyown.com). Talstar would also work. Youll need to spray your yard and your pool deck, and then stay off the area for a few days. Follow the label for each of these. Good news is that you can use either inside your home and get rid of your pest control guy. After all - this is the stuff he's buying and reselling you any way.
Pest Control Recommendation Hey y’all - Recently moved into an older home from an apartment complex. Since moving in I’ve been finding a few roaches/other bugs every morning. I’ve coated my house in Ortho Home Defense and put out roach bait, but had no luck. Haven’t even been able to eat in my house because I’m too worried about attracting more bugs.
Anyone have a recommendation for a good, local pest control company? Thank you!

Check out www.domyown.com as they let you but the professional grade stuff yourself. Started doing this and never looked back. Had a small roach problem myself a while back and bought one of their roach kits and it took care of the problem quickly. I still have product left from when I did it.
DIY pest control (bats / rodents / bugs)? Hi all!
My wife and I just bought a house in the rural PNW. There was a bat in the attic, but he's gone now ( and I'm out a good chunk of money for rabies treatment ) .
Are there any resources you'd recommend for explaining how to do bat/rodent exclusion myself? How about general pest control ( eg Boxelder bugs getting inside ) ? Feels silly to pay a company ~$50/mo to come spray once a quarter.
Thank you!

Google diy pest control. I use this site to buy all the pesticides. Don't buy big box's chemical, they are weak. I buy mine from domyown.com. No, I don't work fro them. They sell chemicals that are used by pros.
Where do you buy pre-emergent? This year I ended up buying Prodiamine from Lawn Care Nut. It worked very well (except for one area of my yard I must has missed). However, it is $60 ($50 on sale) to cover 15,000 square feet.
Do you have any recommendations from other vendors for something a bit cheaper? Seems like his stuff is more expensive because 1) it is good quality and 2) he runs a comparably small operation

Did you buy granular prodiamine that you use in a spreader? Switch to the version that you use in a sprayer from domyown.com. A 5 pound container of that will last you years. You will need a sprayer through - recommended to go battery powered. My yard is about the same size as yours and that’s what I did this year. Edit to add link: https://www.domyown.com/prodiamine-65-wdg-generic-barricade-p-2495.html You only use a handful of tablespoons per application so 5 pounds goes a long way.
Roaches I live in an apartment in Scarborough that recently has gotten a big cockroach problem, specifically the german roach. I noticed them at night time when i would go to get some water and see many of them scatter into the shadows when i turn the lights on. So after a bit of research, I started to do some basics such as caulking all seams and cracks and applying boric acid in my cabinets and drawers. I also bought some wilson oneshot spray and some others from canadian tire and homedepot but they dont do sht. I would apply enough to the point the roaches turn foamy white. The sprays only hindered their movement, once the foam on them fizzed out, they would go back to moving at full speed.
I tried finding quality roach bait and spray, but its not on sale anywhere (Amazon, Canadian Tire, Home depot, Lowes). Does anyone know where i can get the good stuff to help kill the german cockroaches once and for all?
Ortho Home Defense Max - wtf Every review I read has this stuff as the best of the best. Yet everytime I use it there's still ants and spiders around not even days later. Yesterday I sprayed the foundation of the house, sofets, doors, etc and today I still see some spiders hanging out by the front door. I even pressure washed the house today using some cleaner, killed a few in the process, took down some cobwebs and they're still around.
It wasn't raining when I applied, I laid a heavy layer, etc. And we also get some ants in the house still. Not a ton but a few here and there. I've even set up several traps for them and they still come.
Anyway, can somebody give a recommendation for a good insect (see:spider, ant) deterrent that actually provides a barrier? I see a lot of homemade mixes but unsure of those. Outside specifically. Thanks!

Dimension or Barricade are preemergent herbicides that a lot of folks seem to use. As for post emergents, Speedzone or Tenacity are also used. Tenacity can also be used as a oremergent when planting grass seed, but I’m not sure if it can be used in a garden. I shop at domyown.com. You can read about the labels for each chemical there and see which one suits your needs.
What are some great termite control companies in KC? I just recently found out my home has termites indoors. We have never had to call pest control services of any sort so this is all new to us. I've heard that termite control can be very expensive, and money can be hard during this time but we're willing to pay for good services at a good price. Could you recommend any companies that treat and get rid of termites inside your home or share any experiences and processes you've taken to do so? Thank you so much

check out domyown.com Obviously pay for the pest control but check what they use, if it works consider dropping a little more money for termidor or whatever and a pump sprayer. Could help you keep things under control after the initial treatment.
Any good online places to get fertilizer? Are there any recommendations for places to buy fertilizer online that aren’t the big box stores? Amazon has Scott’s pretty much exclusively. Home Depot and Lowe’s won’t deliver unless you spend a bunch extra. Just looking for a decent fertilizer that doesn’t cost too much. Not sure if there are other sites that are well kept secrets. Let me know! Thanks!
7a - Fall preemergent question Well, kinda new to this in zone 7a. Finally have the interior of the house up to speed and would like to move beyond simply mowing. Biggest problem with my lawn is weeds. Right now the cooler weather has killed many of them off or at least put them in hiding. I have missed my overseed window, but was thinking a fall preemergent would help get a good start for next year. Any recommendations for a product and where to buy?

Prodiamine WDG - DoMyOwn.com ~$60 for a 5 lb jug, about 40 cents per 1,000 square feet at the 6 month control rate.
Is $300/Year Reasonable for a Retreat/Repair Terminte Bond? We purchased a new house in the Atlanta area and Arrow Exterminators is asking for $295/year to renew the termite bond currently in place. Does anyone know if that is a reasonable price for the area? Are there better companies to go with? The house is about $300k fair market value, built in 1990. The termite bond is for treatment and repair.
FilcoRumHam replied:
$250-300 is pretty normal. If you’re handy and don’t plan to sell anytime soon you can get the needed chems from domyown.com. Also arrow is legit, but be wary that companies claiming to have a bond on your new home is one of the latest scams. I received a letter that was pretty convincing “Please contact us regarding your termite bond, 60 day deal to transfer the existing bond into your name for $550 otherwise it’s $1250” sort of thing, it was worded in a manner to imply that they held the bond. In reality it was with another company who transferred it no charge with a $175 / year re-treat.
