  Sue there's an organisation in the Port called Blue Orchid. They are a free service that guide you right through becoming self employed to paying your first tax return.... They are great and its who I aren't through when I became self employed. They used to hold their office in Ellesmere Port library, not sure if its still there or somewhere else. Just give the library a call to check.

  An accountant can be expensive if you're just starting out, though they can save you money in the long run. You don't have to tell HMRC you're a sole trader until you're in your second tax year as a business I think. It also can be worth looking into working for an umbrella organisation that sort out your tax for you for a small fee. There's also a few services and courses in Manchester that can be useful, maybe have a look at Blue Orchid. http://www.blueorchid.co.uk/

  I've just been on a self employment 2 day course that covers all things that you'll need, insurance wise taxes, NI. It was with a company called Blue Orchid, it was free. Maybe contact them for some help? Just a suggestion x
