Foodie Transplant Looking for Great Restaurant Recommendations! I'm moving to DC in two weeks. I'm quite the food lover (extreme understatement) , and I would love to hear what your favorite restaurants are! I love all cuisine, so I want to hear it allll....thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Edit: Thank you for all the great suggestions! As just to clarify on the "foodie" thing. I am by no means a food snob, and I don't eat only at fancy restaurants. I just love good food, and I love to eat. I didn't know the term was a whole culture, so, apologies.
Also, if anyone is interested in a meal buddy when I arrive, I'd love to meet some new people! :)

Yes, DC restaurant week is nearly over but certainly use that to get out and try a variety of places (they do it again in late summer/early fall) - most of the high-end participate so it's a good chance to see if you like the place enough to return for full-fare meal. (And if you're mobile and interested, they also do it in Bethesda, Annapolis, I think various parts of NoVA band together and there's also one in I think Wheaton/Silver Spring.)
If you want to splurge, you can try komi. Certainly an experience and generally good. We've also found Blue Duck to be good on repeated visits. We've had mixed experiences with the Washingtonian's 'best restaurants' - most are generally good, but not necessarily worth the value.
Having lived in more food-friendly places, we've been a little underwhelmed by value proposition of many of the places here but have certainly had some good meals (both cheap and not). Probably my favorite quality but reasonable restaurant is Sergio Ristorante Italiano in the Hilton in Silver Spring - not everything is great, but they almost always have a white fish special and it's like you're on the Mediterranean. And if you can make it to DTSS a second time, everyone I've ever taken to Mandalay is a fan - it's reasonable and as it's Burmese is new to most everyone.
If you like seafood, I have also received good reports from the Maine Ave fish market but have yet to make it there myself.
There are a lot of places out there, but in my experience it's almost more about what's the best place in your vicinity and pick from that. It's also hard because there's a lot of money in DC (at least in many of the major restaurant areas) so they can keep prices high even if the quality is so-so.

DC has a good range of high and middle restaurants worth going to. There's definitely enough a food scene here that you won't get bored exploring. You might not like what you find, but that's not for lack of the scene trying.
For things to definitely try: Ethiopean (Dukem, Etete). Korean (in Annandale). Vietnamese (Eden Center, Four Sisters, Present).
For Specific Restaurants: Komi and Inn at Little Washington have definitely been the 'big' restaurants for years running. Fiola, Mintwood Place, Little Serow and Toki Underground are the 'hot shit' newcomers.
And there are plenty of other places worth going to (2941, Central, Source, Estadio, Columbia Room, Restaurant Eve, Dino, Cork, Et Voila, Cafe St. Ex, Room 11, etc).
