  Nicole asks: My (8yo) daughter would like to get her ears pierced. I've been reading that tattoo parlors/body piercers are the safest place to get this done. Does anyone know if that is an option in Omaha? And if so, do you have experience with someone reputable? Or if that is not an option, any other recommendations?

  At Omaha children's clinic we use a piercing gun with a surgical grade plastic earring , everything that touches the patient is disposable therefore completely sterile. We use the plastic so as not to sensitize them to the metal. I find this works particularly well and kids have not tolerated ear piercing before, we do not use a needle as the piercing parlors do use I know there's an argument that these heal better and is overall a better technique as there is no crush injury to the tissue. We do piercing at the cost of the earrings it is not anything that is profitable for us it is just a service I provide as I have seen many kids with metal allergy and have that made worse by ear piercing .   Omaha Children's clinic on 192 & Q does ear piercing just like a tattoo place would but in an doctors setting.

  My son was very premature and has some complex medical issues. Does anyone know of a great independent pediatrician that specializes in preemies or medical needs children. We love his pediatrician but she is part of boystown and we have to jump thru hoops to ask questions and off hours we have to go thru all his medical history and talk to someone not familiar w/ him.

  We love Dr. Vann. Omaha Childrens Clinic. 330 5690. All 3 of my kiddos go there. My oldest has CP. and he has been great!!

  Courtney asks: I'm looking for a new pediatrician for my 9 month old. Someone who won't freak about cosleeping. Current pediatrician is pushing sleep training and controlled crying. Also he feels that we need to introduce a bottle at a year because "babies who breast feed longer have some aversions to solid foods" He believes in scheduled feedings and cutting out night feedings. Preferably someone in west Omaha (we are in between Millard south and west) That isn't insanely busy. Not looking for criticisms of current doctor, just simply listing what he and I don't see eye to eye on so we can find a better fit. Thanks! -- Eva
