  can anybody recommend a great 2 day a week preschool type program for our son- he has special needs but would benefit from the right structured play environment to help him get ready for school the following year.

  I don't know if it's too far away, but the Beaches Co-op play school at Kingston rd and Scarborough rd is wonderful. My kids went there and because it's coop you can be involved too.

  I will second the beaches co op playschool. My three girls have gone there and are very happy. My youngest is there now in the class for kids aged 3/4 - I know the school is accepting registrants for now until the end of the school year, And then again for the fall.
