Looking to take a cheap cruise in August for a family of 5? Do you know of a Tavel agent that can help or even website? I won't step foot on Carnival so please other suggestions.

The closer to your cruise date all cruise lines have last minute fares. I have cruised alot and its one of the many perks of living in Fla. Carnival is very nice. The newer ships are very nice. NCL is also family friendly. You will do best to plan thro ugh the cruise line directly. Often if you call , you can get a better rate. Summer months are typically "peak" so rates are higher. Some lines wont cruise to southern ports because of the heat so destination is key. The smaller (older) ships dock in Tampa because they have to be able to get under the Skyway bridge. The newer, larger ships leave from Miami. Tampa has a really nice port that is family friendly accessible. Literally park and cruise. Arrangements ,travel and parking is more expensive and time consuming in Miami. Th cheapest cruise will be either the Bahamas or western Carribean. I dont care for the Bahamas so if it were me , western Carribean, Grand Caymen/ Cozumel/ Costa Maya. Stay away from Belize ,Jamaica for all the obvious reasons esp with kids. Sign up on cruise critic.com. There are message boards and forums to help you decide the best way to plan your trip and excursions. Dont be fooled that you need to book excursions through the agency or the cruiseline. You will get the same insurance/cancellation dealing direct and save alot of money.

I did a quick search on cruise critic and came up with the consensus that they only work within a deck or two of each other and when you are on open decks. Apparently if you have an android, you can use a free app. really- check out cruise critic.com , make a free account and do a search for walkie- tons of info!
