The only stores that have slide rules on their shelves are in Japan. Bill Lise has been finding them, but he lives and works there. Alternates include eBay, but there are several people (Walter...
Stupid.com has sold out the 6 inch rules - they still have the 10 inch in stock. (Glad I bought two! Now I wonder if I should get one of the 10 inch ones
Hello all, There is a WebSite...www.stupid.com..that has new plastic slide rules that might work for your physic classes. These are basic rules, new and only $4 for the 6"...$6 for the 10 inchers. They have A,B,C,D and K scales. and might be enough to show the students the basics with a small dollar outlay. The web addy for the rules is.. http://www.stupid.com/stat/SLID.html I hope this might help you out... Kskarma
I need a slide rule for my physics class. Can Anyone please tell me a store where I can find one? Home Depot maybe?
a For a cheap mannheim, there is a company selling one as a novelty... they want $5.99 plus shipping for one. They have a 6 inch one (without trig) as well for $3.99. http://www.stupid.com It is all plastic and is barely adequate... but cheap and available. Regards,
Stupid.com has them for sale. Apparently they found some in a warehouse somewhere. The quality is rather low, but they are useable, they ship fast and the price isn't too bad. Here's the link: http://www.stupid.com/stat/SLID.html A pretty good purchase for a first rule; you can decide if you want to buy a better one later. I have bought a circular from Concise, and had very good service - though I had to send them my credit card information over eMail. (I split it up into two messages.
For physics you'll need a rule with some good trig scales (for vector problems, for example). The rules at stupid.com are good for basic work, but you'll miss the ST scale and the markings for complementary angles (which these rules probably don't have). Also, it doesn't hurt to have log-log scales, especially if you're in a calculus-based physics course. I recommend Ted Hume at ; he has some nice, powerful rules available at very reasonable prices. And Dick Rose has probably the largest number of rules for sale anywhere. Regards,
