I am in desperate need of finding an affordable therapist in Toronto, but I’m not having any luck online. There are so many doctors to choose from and most do not have prices, it’s so overwhelming. Can anyone give recommendations? Thank you!

You fill out a bunch of information and then they match you with a few different therapists that you choose from. I have been using it for over a year and is definitely helped me a ton. I did it, and they placed me with someone who had actually worked with alot of ex witnesses. I also really connect with her so I think it did a good job of matching me. Only thing I suggest is as the therapist if they do half hour sessions or hour sessions. Half hour sessions suck.

I always recommend talking to your general practitioner they can prescribe meds for you and direct you to a therapist they trust for you. If you feel like that isn't an option or if money is an issue then take a look at betterhelp.com that's were I talk things through with my therapist. If you want something in person I would suggest associated counseling professionals in omaha but I have mixed reviews about them.

I've been using online tx through betterhelp.com ... it's basically video calls (like skype). It's been working for me. I like that I can do my therapy in my own home instead of having to travel. So far so good. It's out of pocket, but fairly affordable compared to in-office therapy.

areiny replied:I used the psychology today link listed above, it was really helpful. I agree to just call about ten of them every few days. I had about a 10-20% call back rate. While I was on a wait list, I used betterhelp.com for counseling by phone. It’s not covered by insurance, but got me through a crisis and was totally worth it. I believe I talked with a licensed counselor the same day I signed up.

They will have strategies you can practice, but generally they need to work with you to figure out what works best for you. Having said that, there are a variety of online therapy services that you may want to look into. I haven't used any of them, but you can find some with a quick Google search, like Betterhelp.com. if you do go the online therapy route, please read the American Psychological Association's advice on this first: http://www.apa.org/helpcenter/online-therapy.aspx

arfnargle replied:The bay area has a serious lack of qualified mental health professionals. And even fewer of them that take insurance. I found my last therapist on Psychology Today. You could also try betterhelp.com or talkspace.com. I had good luck with betterhelp, but decided I like seeing someone in person.

Alia G. replied:I was looking into a company, www.betterhelp.com it's a message board based therapy. You are assigned to a therpaist that you can message / write to as often a you want / need to. I believe it was $35/week with or without insurance. I only did it for 1 week, and the person I had was really great, but then found something in my area $10/visit so I did that instead.
