Hi friends, any recs on banks that would be good for a university student to open a checking account? Nearby ATMs (not just online), low/no fees, and ability to keep a low balance are all important factors. Thanks in advance!!

Where do you bank? Credit union or bank? Need a recommendation.

PFCU's web site. https://www.pfcu.com/

We have accounts at Citizens Bank and Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU). We have checking and savings with Citizens and a safe deposit box for important documents. We like the convenience of having a Citizens Branch in the neighborhood and Citizens ATMs all over the city. Anybody who lives in Philadelphia can join PFCU. If they had more ATMs we would consider moving all our banking there—no fees, and we really prefer a consumer-driven credit union to an ordinary bank—but some places where we shop regularly only take cash, so we need convenient ATMs. Two years ago we took out a home improvement loan with PFCU to replace our roof. They were very helpful and efficient, and the interest rate was at the low end of the market.
