  My sis lives in SE Portland, and her favorite mechanic shop is Maynard's in Clackamas (http://www.maynardsauto.com/). That might not be a convenient location for you? She said it's definitely not a fancy place, but it's affordable and the guys are respectful and don't try to sell her any hinky fixes. Hope this is helpful.
