Look for something on the medium to dark side, and a bit heavier than normal, say 6-7 oz. Lots of apron ideas/patterns on the 'net. atrueamateur replied:If I may say so, we made some cheap loaner tunics for our group out of bargain bin cotton. They died ridiculously quickly for how much they cost to make, and (if I recall my math correctly) it would have cost us less in the short term to do them in fabrics-store.com sale linen. Remember to never confuse cheapness and frugality!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!Sue C. replied:I am, erm, rather well-endowed, and I achieved my most effective looks (and support) with a couple of layers of moderately heavy-weight linen. (I'm pretty sure it was right around 7 oz linen...purchased it a LONG time ago from fabrics-store.com.) I'd recommend something like that, and perhap mucking about with the fitting of your bodice--not just the circumference, but also the neckline and even the armscyes. Little changes can make a surprising amount of difference. (Something I learned in a Gothic Fitted Gown workshop from Robin Netherton, mumblety years ago.) Granted, what I was wearing was a modest, linen-based version of ItalianRen, but between the linen and making sure that the bodice fit was pretty snug, it worked quite well, sans modern bra.

You can find linens, silks, and cottons through purveyors that don't cater to the reenactor crowd, too, of course, but they haven't been curated to fit our needs. While I've had good luck with products from both fabrics-store.com and puresilks.us, I can't uniformly recommend them because plenty of what they provide isn't right for us. If you venture outside of the links Steve provided, you have to be ready to do your own research, and lots of it :)

If you are willing to pay for someone else to make you a tunic there are several in Europe and the UK willing to take your money.
