Thought I would write this post to clear everything up that many people do not understand. Taxis are regulated by the state, that is why they have meters and are set at a certain price. Uber is also set at a certain price but cheaper than a taxi. But U ber IS NOT a taxi service, it is a find a driver service. It is not legal to drink in a taxi or an uber car unless it is an Uberx "for hire" vehicle. In fact, you cannot legally drink in any vehicle unless it is a "for hire" vehicle such as Limo companies, White Horse and Triangle Trans for example. Uber finds personal and "for hire" vehicles for you. If you are going to drink, make sure it is a for hire vehicle. If you are in someones Uber personal vehicle, it is no different than you having an open container in a friends vehicle and you could get ticketed or arrested. Most likely, in a taxi, if you are drinking, the driver will get arrested because he should know better. Now, why Taxi companies are pissed off is because Uber found a loop hole. Uber "personal" vehicle drivers have regular tags and are getting paid to drive people which would be highly illegal. They do this by not getting paid directly from the passenger but through Uber. Passenger pays Uber for the finding a driver service and driver gets paid from Uber. That is why Taxis and some For Hire companies are pissed is because these Uber Personal drivers are getting paid without having the qualified insurance, commercial DMV fees and tags that taxis and for hire vehicles are required. Since Uber uses for hire vehicles as well, any for hire company could use Uber to get extra runs but a taxi cannot. Call Triangle Trans at 919-830-4497 to reserve. https://facebook.com/triangletrans
