Inquiring about a reputable jeweler and watchmaker... My grandmother passed away recently and my family has inherited all of her old jewelery. Included in that jewelery are some older pocketwatches from company's like Waltham, Elgin, and Whitney. We have questions about about them, but in order to learn production dates and potential value, we need to see the serial numbers on the actual watch movements and not the cases.
We aren't skilled enough and we don't trust ourselves enough to attempt opening and potentially damaging the cases. This is where I turn to Reddit. Are any of you familiar with a reputable jeweler or watchmaker that would be comfortable and skilled enough to open the watch cases? Also potentially a jeweler capable of identifying and putting a valuation on other pieces. If the watchmaker and jeweler are two different people that's fine, we're really just looking for somewhere to start. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
