I don't usually do this but here it goes:
My 26 yr Old ottb has lost all his teeth with the exception of his incisors we just recently had to start feeding hay (we live on 40+acres and only have 8 horses) but I have been chopping his hay for him and he is still making those hay wads and I come out in the morning to a bunch of little balls of frozen Hay! What other things do y'all do for your oldies with no teeth? Vets only suggestions were chopping and soaking. soaking isn't really realistic when it's 10* outside. He is offered basically as much senior with some sweetfeed and alfalfa pellets mix twice a day and whatever he doesn't eat my mare will clean up once he's done but I'm at a loss for what to do now, all the country folks around here already think I'm crazy for doing as much as I do for him and tell me to put him down which isn't happening anytime soon, he's otherwise healthy as a horse ;)
Thanks y'all and please no call your vet comments- I've already done that and I am an RVT at an emergency and critical care hospital so I know it's best to consult with vets and not Facebook but I'm looking for others experiences and then I will run that by my vet before doing :)
