Looking for a bit of advice please, the vet is coming out at the end of the month to do my loan pony's teeth. First time he has had anything done since I had him. Roughly how would it be (he also may need sedated) thanks
Kay P. replied:
Mark Twigg is excellent, never needed sedation on any of mine. He's about £40 I think. 07791 126367

My vet would always want to sedate my horse even though I knew she was ok getting her teeth done without sedation so I got in touch with David Brown an equine dentist and he's done her ever since without being sedated. He even does my youngsters teeth every 6 months with ease. One of the ladies on the yard has a horse (26 yr young) who had always been sedated and she got David to do his teeth last year, she's not going to use the vet again as she was delighted.
Wondered if anyone knows of a good horse dentist in Aberdeenshire that doesn't have a long waiting list? Also would need to sedate or would I just be better with my vet? Thanks

Vets are not specialists in equine dentistry, Mark twiggy is fantastic, done both my girls teeth and I've used him for 6 years, very patient and lets the horse get used to the noise of his machinery. He's 40 quid with is a great price and he's fully qualified, I wouldn't let anyone else near my horses teeth! I don't believe for a second he broke a horses jaw, he wouldn't be allowed to continue to practice if this was the case He's very skilled and I know many people who use him. He's the best around!

I only use the vet as they are legally allowed to remove teeth and sedate, I've had my horse 10 years and only had bad experiences with an equine dentist who some people are recommending on here messed my friends horses mouth up too, both of us ended up having to take the horses into the vet surgery to get the mouth sorted and couldn't ride for some time, just be careful with equine dentists x
Therese P. replied:
I think equine dentists are allowed to remove teeth but they are not allowed to sedate horses which is why vet needs to be on hand for that part...
