  I always stay at this gorgeous, luxury B & B in St Albans (about 15 mins drive). You can take a small dog there too (they do have a resident terrier) There are chain hotels closer, but I'm not a fan of that type of accomm. And the B & B works out cheaper if you are on your own. :) http://www.29 stalbans.com/

  I don't know about bus routes, as I always drive. The B & B is right in St Albans town centre so there will be buses nearby, just not sure if they go near the course location.
