About us
Discovery offers an English preschool, kindergarten, and day care services for children from 18 months~6 years old. Continuing English development is provided in afternoons for children attending elementary school.
Our curriculum is Reggio Emilia influenced, characterized by children and teachers negotiating the development of the curriculum together. Learning projects are identified from children's interests, and involve deep inquiries into personally meaningful topics. This allows for contextualized, real-life learning experiences along with strong personal motivation, critical thinking, creativity, and proactive social skills. Nothing boring about school here!
Literacy development is individualized (as are all areas of development), granting each child access to just what they need, step by step, to become confident language users.
Our school year follows the April - March Japanese school calendar. Enrollment is permitted year round.
Discovery also operates as a center for early childhood and linguistic research. We regularly host guests and researchers from regional universities, along with overseas visitors. Contact us for further information.

My family are planning to move to Nagoya in the next few months but havnt decided upon an area yet. We would like to move close to a nursery where my son (who is 1 at the moment) would be able to go. Ideally, I'd like to put him somewhere that offers bilingual English/Japanese staff. Does anyone know of any places like this around Nagoya? Also, about how much does daycare cost in the city? Is there any financial assistance available for people of low incomes? (My wife stays at home at the moment but life is tough on just one wage and she is thinking of returning to work). Sorry for the long post, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.Finbar B. replied:Followup to anyone following this: Discovery International School is certified as a day care center by Aichi Prefecture. As such, residents of Nagakute City and some surrounding areas are eligible for government funding to help with tuition (salary based), just like Japanese kindergartens. We also employ only early childhood-certified educators. We are opening a new campus in September with a brand new building and enclosed outdoor playground. In Nagakute, but bordering both Nisshin and Meito-ku. Day care is available between 8:00-6:00.
