  Elder care on Upper Cape Looking for suggestions for care for a senior couple in the Upper Cape area. We don't want to split them up, so in-home care seems to be the best option. Their physical health is decent but their mental capacity is in decline. (Dementia is the likely diagnosis for both.) What are the best companies in the area?

  Consider seeking the advice of an elder law attorney located on cape cod. You can search the national academy of elder law attorneys website for attorneys who are admitted to the elder law academy. naela.org is the site. You can also discuss preserving assets against future nursing home costs. Usually because of the progressive nature of dementia an institution becomes the only option eventually. Cape Cod residences in Pocasset has independent/assisted living that transitions to full care. The only place like it on the upper cape.

  Hello Ardmore neighbors! My 80 year old mom with Alzheimer's Disease is moving from her apartment in Pittsburgh to a superfabulous assisted living place in Des Moines, IA near my sister. I am my mom's POA and I'm looking for recommendations for both legal and financial advice. Does anyone have any family and/or elder law people that they recommend? What about certified financial advisors? Thanks for any help you can provide. This forum has been so helpful for me in the past.

  As far as legal goes, you probably need to consult with an attorney in the state where your mother is going to reside. An attorney here in NC is probably not going to be much help. This is particularly true in the case of elder law issues because things are different from state to state. You can check www.naela.org which is the website for the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys for elder law attorneys in Iowa. You can probably find one that would consult with you over the phone if you are not planning to travel to Iowa.

  Aida petitioning for Guardianship of your mom is relatively easy with the help of a good family law or elder law attorney - you can go to the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys website, www.naela.org and find an attorney in your area.
