Suggestions please -
Does anyone have a breakfast suggestion for a one year old that will not include eggs, wheat, dairy, oatmeal, corn, meat? I was giving Rice Krispies but the barley malt ingredient has become a problem. Thanks.

So after 2 years of Brody being sick every 2-4 weeks, doc finally ordered an endoscopy and now we know that he has Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Basically this means the food he is eating is destroying his esophagus. He is now on a food elimination diet of no dairy, wheat, soy or egg...so overwhelming!! Looking for advice...anyone have connections to someone with EE or have suggestions for recipes while we wait for referral to specialist?
Our family is travelling to Maui on Tuesday and I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on safe places to eat there. My kids are dairy/egg/peanut/treenut allergic (my daughter also has a latex allergy and therefore has sensitivities to wheat and lots of fruits). We're bringing lots of their non-perishables as well as stopping by Whole Foods by the airport on our way to our condo in Napili Bay, but it would be great if during the week we're there to be able to not prepare one of their meals and go out for a nice dinner together.

We are in the process of food challenging individual tree nuts with our allergist. I'm aware of safe nut butters, but would love to find actual almonds and/or macadamia nuts that have not come into contact with any other tree nuts or peanuts. Has anyone had luck with this? Thanks for any insight! I appreciate it!
Kids F. replied:
For various almond products, check into www.barneybutter.com . For macadamia nuts, you may want to search or post on our community to get recommendations from other parents: www.kidswithfoodallergies.org
My son is 9 years old. We found out when he was about 8 months old that he is allergic to all nuts. Today, they tested him again and found out that he is also allergic to soy, onion, basil, garlic, and sage. We don't have our appointment date set for the dietitian yet. Does anyone know of a good website to get food ideas to fix for my son? Also does a pizza sauce exist that doesn't have these ingredients? Thank you.
Kids F. replied:

I was a member of KWFA when it was on yahoo, but I havent visited in a while because my 8 yr old's allergies were "under control"....or so I thought. He broke out in hives from top to toe on Monday and now we are headed back to the allergist in 2 wks for retesting. Any suggestions?
Kids F. replied:
I'm glad you found us again. I would say keep a food diary until you can see the allergist. Write down everything he eats along with any symptoms he has. Could there be environmental triggers? -Pollens are rampant now. How about latex? You are welcome to post here or you can log in to our forums and post there as well. www.kidswithfoodallergies.org
From Jen Tooman:
Our son keeps getting diagnosed/un-diagnosed (reflux/GERD/cyclic vomiting syndrome) and bounced around different departments. He's 2.5 years old, 100% tube fed (bleded diet, dairy and gluten free) and still has vomit issues. We don't believe it's just reflux, as they are stomach emptying episodes.
We're seeking docs for second opinion. Does anyone work with a GI at Mott in Ann Arbor, MI that they really like? I've heard good things about Detroit as well... any recommendations would be awesome! Thanks!!!
Meg F. replied:
I agree that FPIES or EoE are rocks to look under if reflux isn't controllable and he's on blended diet. The Kids with Food Allergies Foundation has info on both and has been a life (and sanity!) saver for us. http://kidswithfoodallergies.org

I thank you for the great info and resource too! I'm sending my child to kindergarten next year to a school that hasn't had to deal with food allergies before. (Ontario, CA) Do you have any ideas of where to get some posters and resources for the school to post to begin educating the other parents and teaching staff? (our particular allergies are to peanut, egg and sesame) The school board here does have an "no nuts" policy, however it has not been enforced at this school since there's hasn't been an allergy there yet. Any ideas on how to deal with sending him to school safely are welcome and appreciated. :) Thanks, Megan

Anyone know a good allergist in the Fairfax Virginia area? My 2 year old needs a new allergist. Also, anyone know of any non milk based meal supplements? Not baby formula, but something more like Pediasure without the milk. My son refuses to eat and needs some type of supplement.
Elyse H. replied:
What about asking on the KFA board at http://www.kidswithfoodallergies.org? There are several VA and DC folks on there. As far as formula, what about a soy based one like Bright Beginnings.
Does anyone have a really good Action Plan for school? We had an issue last week with my son's school They were doing a project in the classroom with seeds and the Teacher didn't check the label prior to for his allergies: peanuts/tree nuts and sesame seeds. Once thinking about it, the Sunflower Seeds they were using were produced in the same plant as Nuts. I wasn't contacted until after the fact and he was sent out to recess without anyone aware of the possible exposure!! We've always had an action plan, but I think I need to be firmer with the Principal. I would appreciate any input! Thanks
Elyse H. replied:
Could your son's school do an IHP? It is an individualized health plan. I know several members who have kids in private schools. Have you checked out the KFA forums http://www.kidswithfoodallergies.org? They have an awesome school age forum and great parents who can help come up with ideas, support, and suggestions.
Can anyone direct me to a great website with safe snack ideas for parents to bring to school? Thanks so much!
Melanie C. replied:
We generally do crackers (goldfish, ritz), gummy snacks, fruit, chips. I do not let my food allergic child take food from others due to ingrediants changing without warning. Hope that helps. You can also check out the KFA forums. There have been a couple of threads recently about safe snack lists for school. Membership is free. www.kidswithfoodallergies.org
Hi everyone! I'm planning a cruise for my family next March/2011. My daughter has a severe allergy to peanuts and eggs... I've spoken with the cruise customer service rep and they said I could bring my own outside food abroad. My only concern is heating and cooling the food while on there. Also, any suggestions on types of easy food ideas? Has anyone cruised with a child that had allergies? I feel a little alone as I know no other parents that can relate. Thanks so much!
Melanie C. replied:
Hi Jennifer. You should join the support forums at www.kidswithfoodallergies.org . You won't feel alone over there! There are hundreds of other parents of food allergic children that are willing to answer any of your questions. KFA can also give you lots of easy food ideas.
