My name is Kirrie, and since I'm a dog, I have a few thoughts about dog behavior and training that might be useful to people who love dogs! Being very people-oriented, I am delighted when people "Like" me, so please do! Join me for some periodic thoughts about dogs and their relationships with people, as well as some other topics. Joanne D. asked:A dog walking client of mine takes her dog to local classes every week. This week he was particularly difficult as he just wanted to play with the other dogs. The instructor has suggested stopping any play with other dogs for a week. My immediate thought would be to do lots of eye contact work also with distractions and also recall work. He is only 9 months. I feel stopping him playing will only cause him frustration leading to more problems. Thoughts please guys??
Risë V. replied:And, Jo Stringer, if it's helpful, I just posted a couple videos of my working with my play therapy dog, who is a very high energy high play-drive dog. One is a way to teach eye contact, and the other is a Leave It with attention to the person. There are also written explanations there.
