  So, John and I are looking for potential reception venues for a wedding and since we are footing the bill any suggestions for cheap/free places are welcome! We are hoping to have the ceremony at Avondale Park, so something in close proximity to there would be nice, but not crucial. We are looking at sometime in June/July and also want to bring in our own drinks, caterer and entertainment so we can afford it all. Let me know your thoughts! :)

  Jared and I had our reception at the Historic Cahaba Pump House Museum -- https://www.bwwb.org/conferencecenter. It's something like $200 to rent for pretty much the day, I think, and the money goes towards helping people who can't pay their water bills. It's not the most elegant of venues, but it's definitely not awful. Plus, it comes with tables and chairs, there's a kitchen with a stove and fridge and sink and stuff where you can handle the food + drink to be put out, and it's got a built-in soundsystem you can hook your laptop or whatever to for music. We were really happy with it. And oh yeah, you do all your own stuff: music, flowers, food, decor, set up, break down, etc.
