Shoe question for you more experienced runners. Seems like every pair of "road" shoes I buy I end up hating and wanting to wear my trail shoes. And nearly every trail shoes I've bought I've loved. The perceived fit/feel that I don't like about the road shoes comes down to two main things: I don't like shoe soles to feel squishy, and I don't like to feel like my foot is at an angle from heel being high to toes being low to the ground. The feeling I like about my trail shoes, in comparison, is that they feel level (heel and toes seem like they are on a relatively level platform) and the feel of the shoe is firm/hard compared to the feel of most road shoes I've tried. Yesterday I was at Dick's and tried and hated all the road shoes. Tried a shoe I had avoided due to wild looking fabric, liked the feel, and noticed they had a trail shoe mixed in with the road so there I was liking a trail shoe again. Is this a problem? Can I just buy some trail shoes and designate them for the street and keep my trail ones for the woods? Or can anyone suggest a street-purposed shoe that feels firm and level? I am not looking to start trying all the barefoot stuff -- my trail shoes feel very padded/protective/supportive, it's just that they feel stiff vs. squishy. Thanks for any advice you can provide. BTW I am currently (past three years) happily buying Nike running shoes. I unhappily switched to Mizuno for road and trail and then back to Nike.
