About us
Lessons and Attendance:
Lessons are generally given on a weekly basis, based upon my availability and what is convenient to the student’s schedule. Exceptions can be made for multiple lessons per week at my discretion and depending on the needs of the student.
Regular attendance is expected and necessary in order to make appropriate progress. If you are unable to attend a lesson, I must be informed no later than 10:00am the day of the lesson in order to reschedule or credit payment for that lesson. Last minute cancelations and unexcused absences can not be credited or rescheduled. Multiple unexcused absences in a row without payment will result in the loss of your spot.
If I am forced to miss a lesson, I will either schedule a makeup lesson, or give you credit towards the next month’s lessons. If I know ahead of time, I will prorate the bill for the month.
Payments:
Private lessons are $25 per half-hour lesson. I request that lessons be paid for by the month, at the end of the month, with payments due no later than the 5th of the month. A late fee of $25 may be incurred if payments are received after the 5th. Weekly payments can be arranged if requested, but must be paid consistently, in order to secure your spot.
Practicing:
Regular practice time should be set aside for at least five days a week to ensure progress. Thirty minutes of practice each of those five days is suggested, however beginners may need less, and advanced students may need more.
Instrument:
To ensure that the student gets the best possible experience from their lessons and to experience the best results in the long run, it is recommended that the student have a full-sized, 88-key instrument at home that is in good working condition.
Acoustic pianos must have no sticking keys, and at least the far right foot pedal (the damper pedal) must be in working condition. The piano must be tuned at least once per year, but twice is recommended due to the drastic climate changes present in the area.

digital piano or keyboard with 88-full sized weighted keys may prove to be a good option as well. These pianos do not have to be tuned, and generally come with the option of headphones, which can allow the student to practice more privately.
Music Purchases:
Music Purchases are the responsibility of the student/parent. I will recommend certain books based upon the level of the student and their goals as a student. Students are always welcome to give input on the types of music they desire to learn, and I will do my best to work with those requests depending on availability of the music and if the student is at the proper level of the available music.
Performance Opportunities:
I believe that an important process of learning to play the piano is being able to share the things you’ve learned with others. Therefore, I provide several opportunities for my students to share what they have learned with friends and families. I schedule two recitals per year, one Christmas recital in the month of December, as well as a Spring recital in May. Students are not required to participate in these recitals, but participation is highly recommended, as it stretches the student in ways they can not be stretched during a private lesson.
Lane Music also offers two piano festivals during the year, which give the students a chance to perform for a judge in order to receive constructive feedback on one piece of music. These festivals are held in November and April annually.
Final Note:
Please do not hesitate to ask questions about any aspect of my studio policy. I am generally very flexible and easy to work with, and will do my best to make lessons as positive an experience as I can. Exceptions always arise when it comes to missed lessons and payments, and I try my best to work with you to the best of my ability and what my schedule allows.
Thank you so much for your interest in piano lessons! Your support and cooperation is greatly appreciated!
