  Hi Dorothy I have never seen this, could it be the hard gum area that is growing? I am sure if you were to take photo's and put them on here I could ask Hannah to have a look for you. Unfortunately her practice is in Stafforshire so a long way for you to travel. Maybe it would be worth phoning and speaking to her where she may be able to advise what this could be.
