A good vet that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to get a cat declawed...

Please please please research pawproject.org. There is a trailer on YouTube if you don't want to stream the 58 minute documentary. Declawing a cat it essentially cutting off their nail to the knuckle! It is EXTREMELY painful and can cause painful bone spurs and behavioral issues since they have no defense mechanism. I understand your children come before your cat but there are alternatives...Try a scratching pad, cats need to scratch or you could trim it's nails or last resort rehome it. The procedure is so inhumane that there are bills to outlaw it in many states. Knowledge is power.
I'm very interested in finding a veterinarian in the area that does NOT declaw. I've been looking for some time. If anyone knows of one I'd be most grateful.

I didn't want this to become a back and forth. This site does a great job explaining my choice. http://www.pawproject.org
Vets? My cat has to get his front claws removed. I don't know where to take him. Note that I can't just take him anywhere because my money situation is very tight. I'm unaware of any vets in the area.
EDIT: I GET IT. STOP TELLING ME TO DECLAW HIM

Did you try using a spray bottle or squirt gun when he scratches you? There are also these cap things you can put on the claws that supposedly help. http://www.pawproject.org/faqs/

I agree with everyone: Please do not declaw. Years ago, back before I knew better, I had one of my cats declawed - and it was a disaster. One phalange continued to grow after being severed and there were three subsequent surgeries over the years. The bone would grow and pierce the skin and he'd bleed everywhere and it would get infected. It was just awful. The vast majority of vets do not recommend it. http://www.pawproject.org/ I have put clear packing tape on the corners of my couch that my cats just love to scratch - and that stopped them. Also - have lots of alternatives such as scratch pads (cardboard ones can be purchased at Fred's for about 10 bucks) and a cat tree. Also, there is a spray product you can get at a lot of places that doesn't smell unpleasant to humans but cats hate it. And I agree with everyone else: CAT is a great place for spay and neuter services. Very reasonable. And they offer coupons sometimes.
