Back in January I had a phone call from my 14yr old sons school saying he'd had an accident playing rugby whilst in PE, thought he'd broken his leg and they'd phoned an ambulance. My immediate reaction was 'does he need an ambulance? I'll take him in the car!' No he needs an ambulance. I arrived at the school within ten minutes. He was in the back of an ambulance on entonox and quite happy with the world. I went to hospital, parked, ambulance arrived at A&E. Big brave son taken into resus immediately. Within three minutes of arrival paediatrician and orthopaedic registrar at his side. Within ten minutes of admission his dislocated foot was re-located and son had given a lecture on gamma rays to the anaesthetist whilst under sedation. Straight into X-ray confirming broken tibia and fibula. Needing surgery when swelling reduced. Within two hours of ambulance being called he had been taken to A&E, sedated, dislocation treated, X-ray's done and admitted to kids ward. Ysbyty Gwynedd were amazing from start to finish.
The NHS works when it needs to!!
