  If the vet is a qualified equine dentist ie has done extra studies in equine dentistry then they're generally pretty good. Equinedentalvets.com Olivia James at Brindabella mobile equine vet is very good, she's an equine vet with the dentistry subjects and Suzanne & Rebecca at Canberra Equine Hospital have done the same thing.   Go to www.equinedentalvets.com and find an equine dental vet near you. Better trained and qualified than any lay dentist and also the only regulated equine dental provider. Better for you and your horse! :)

  What's with "No Sedation" as how can you possibly know without a gag to open there mouth to check every tooth and the mouth as to any injuries that may of occured. That's why I only use Equine Dental Vets from now on as to see with a torch as to every part of there mouth and if they need a tooth removed the horse is sedated and can be done there and then. Sorry for the third degree, just care about the horse.

  I'd highly recommend using an Equine Dental Vet rather than a lay dentist. They are highly trained, specifically in equine dentistry and are the only REGULATED equine dental provider. Much better for you and your horse. Find an EDV near you using the find a vet function at www.equinedentalvets.com

  Strongly recommend you use an Equine Dental Vet and not a lay dentist. An EDV has specific postgraduate training in equine dentistry so are qualified to give the best possible diagnosis and care, therefore ensuring the horse is safe to ride. Plus they're the only regulated equine dental provider. Find one near you at www.equinedentalvets.com

  Tanya - like you said, not starting anything, but you need to check the status of Uni if Melbourne on this one. You may in fact find that it does not offer this course at present due to the fact the learning outcomes are not properly recognised under AQTF. Mmmmmm I'm a bit concerned here ... Is Lenny Dixon not the one that "cuts teeth"? Also the accreditation of the lay dentists is not an independent body and is self governing. Lay dentists are not coveted under the Australian College of Vet Surgeons and therefore from a consumer perspective, if ANY thing goes wrong, you have zero recourse and it will cost you a lot of money to get fixed! You are better off using anEquine Dental Vets in the first place!
