We keep my daughters bike and scooter (korkinet) on the balcony (nowhere else has space), and also wooden garden furniture. I keep the bikes and furniture covered to protect from weather and dust and pigeons. I have tried several types of covers (woven fabric type, PVC type, plain plastic), but they all turn brittle and tear after a couple of months. Anyone have suggestions of covers I can use that won't need replacing every couple of months? Or some other inventive solution that you have found?

  How large is the balcony? You can buy portable gazebos and keep them up for as long as you need. You can also put up a nylon sheet that you can buy per metre at hardware stores (reshet tzel, tziliah) like this http://www.shivookyashir.org/Default.asp?PageId=80379&ProId=365781
