Anyone got any thoughts on architectural lighting?? Tutorials? Ideas for lighting setup? This is a recent job, OK, but the light could be better... Distant light, Monte Carlo radiosity... I've tried area light, but the shadows look wrong...

That's a good tip Bobby, I forgot all about lightbitch, that is indeed a good plugin for lighting. I'm not using it anymore since I've changed to Octane render. Or sometimes I use http://www.hdrlightstudio.com for lighting my stuff. But in general I use the HDR and one extra light to light exterior scenes.

I really missed LightBitch. After I started working in the industry I started seeing all the places I wanted to go where Maya houses so LightWave took a back burner for a while for me. Now that I'm done with all the BS in the industry and I can use whatever the hell I like it's all about my LightWave/Houdini-Clarisse-Nuke pipeline. Didn't realize how much I loved LightBitch until I setup my first HDR environment in Maya. HDR Light Studio is also a great tool for environment lighting, especially when you need to convert a normal image into HDRI's.
Howdy folks. :-)
I've got a jewellery animation coming up. Can anyone suggest good hdri backdrops and or settings/tips to get the most of metal and gemstone assets?
Some of the lightbox style hdri's I have are giving me 'sterile' results, which are making my current renders very CG. Thanks for any thoughts. G :-)

make your own to custom fit your product..nothing better..awesome app. http://www.hdrlightstudio.com

As Pete suggested, HDR Light Studio is what you want. You could not ask for more control over lighting than what it gives you.
