Howdy folks. :-)
I've got a jewellery animation coming up. Can anyone suggest good hdri backdrops and or settings/tips to get the most of metal and gemstone...

^^Gary, do you mean you already have HDRI Studio? no real "setting" just open it up and start tweaking to your hearts content
Very quick setup - I used Andrew's metal setup from his Chair scene and changed the colour to a gold-ish look and dielectric node for the diamond (IOR 2.47) with a different reflection map for reflection blurring and then Corona bloom post process in LW. Scene needs work to get rid of the spots, but you get the drift. Only just noticed you mentioned 'animation' in your opening post, so I don't know if this scene file will help you, but strip it down and play. Here's the scene file zip (Note: object is a free ring obj file from Turbosquid and can be found on the TS site. HDR images can be found on the link previously posted in this thread: http://rsldesigns.co.uk/images/ring.zip

As Pete suggested, HDR Light Studio is what you want. You could not ask for more control over lighting than what it gives you.
