This is Bella, or as she was known in the shelter Daphne. I saw Daphne on Sunday on a post that was in the group that said she was being put down if she wasn't rescued that day due to the shelter being at max capacity. She is heartworm positive and her pups had been adopted out, leaving this momma all alone. I asked the shelter how to go about treatment for heartworms as I have never had to deal with them before and they gave me a number for a place that could do treatment for $230. Unfortunately, they only do spays and neuters at this place. I took Bella to Banfield today to get her checked out and make sure everything else was fine. The vet said that at this point she doesn't know if she has fluid building up in her belly from the heartworms or not or if it is just milk as she is still lactating. She said worse case scenario she has 6 months or less without treatment. Best case is she has up to a year without treatment. They estimated treatment being $1000 to get her treated and clear. Unfortunately I don't have $1000 to be able to spend. I also don't qualify for care credit. Does anyone know of a cheaper place to get treatment or can help me? I've only had her since Sunday, but she is such an amazing girl! She is extremely calm, very smart, and when I met her I fell head over heels. She is definitely a momma dog as she has been going and guarding my son's bed at night before we all go to bed. It is the most adorable thing ever and where as he usually falls asleep with the lights on, he now feels safe enough to fall asleep with them off. If you know of any place that can help, please let me know. Thank you!
